Just had the lunch special today with two of my friends; food was tasty, however chickpeas were a bit undercooked. My friends mentioned the same. Anyway it's almost 1 am now and I keep burping and my stomach is distended, and I cannot sleep! I And I eat chickpeas and legumes regularly so I do not have a sensitive stomach either. I just wanted to post this because I was thinking maybe some poor American person wanted to try Indian food for the first time, and now they will think having a bloated distended feeling is normal for Indian food...trust me, it's not! I'll still give this place 3 stars because it is the only decent place for Indian food around here; however they can do better. *burrrp*

Great take out joint with really wonderful Tandoori. Be prepared to wait though, because they make it up fresh, which I like much better than the stuff that's been sitting in a steamer for hours. They have a few very plain tables that could be spruced up a bit if you want to eat in, but take out here is the name of the game. They also make a nice Rogan Josh which is perfectly spiced with just an edge of spicy. It's hidden in the back of a complex of doctors' offices, so you have to hunt it down a bit, but it's well worth the first trip taking you a couple of extra minutes!

Best Indian food in Boca. Far better than Punjab or Curries & More. Takeout only. Very nice people working there. You can eat there but don't! Had takeout again last night. Seek kabob and Tandori chicken were very dry. Food not very good and prices too high. Boca no longer has a decent Indian restaurant.

The Indian Mcdonalds!!!! You order your food on a counter and they come out fresh and steaming hot. Although the space is hidden right behind a hospital and is difficult to spot, once u eat over here you would fall in love with Indian food. The sauces are creamy and flavorful, the breads nice and filling and the samosas crispy with a lot of stuffings. The best dishes have to be the Chicken Makhani, Paneer Korma and the Dal Makhani..... Although this is a counter service place and food is served on paper plates - the guys behind the desk are very warm and attentive. Always take their suggestions because sometimes they go to the kitchen and cook themselves. Overall a great place to have Indian food at just the right price.

I just came back to try this place again. Not worth it. STILL. Overpriced, food tasted old, we could not eat the chicken tikka, it looked grey, tasted worse. Poor quality, and you can tell they use cheap frozen mixed vegetables of the pea, green bean and carrot variety mix. Just awful texture and no taste! Even the naan bread was dry and leathery. Very disappointing. The green chutney tasted like it went bad. We paid almost 50.00 for two dinners, 2 apps and desert! On paper plates with cheap plastic forks, not even nice ones. The workers have no game either. Just lame. Not friendly, hardly said anything, never mind thank you for eating and paying for our horrible excuse for Indian food. Don't waste your money. Worst Indian food ever, I should have listened to Indian friends who won't even eat there...

I eat lunch here once a week. Their lunch specials consists of choosing two items from a six-item list for @ $7. Usually 4 vegetarian dishes, and two meat dishes (one chicken and one lamb). Also included is a desert and naan - which is incredibly addicting!

  • Deleted D.

This place may not be much for decor, but the food and prices are both good. Great for take out!

The best food near FAU. Lunch special is amazing.

  • Bill B.

Great place for a quick Indian lunch. Lunch special rotates throughout the week so you can try different items with every visit. With a choice of two items, rice, naan, and dessert, you won't leave hungry. I like the peas and mushrooms - try that if it is available. Naan is good.

Hmm, maybe the chef is better or we had better luck. The Dal Makhani, lamb vindaloo and garlic naan were quite good. D had been out of the country for months so Indian food was his first stop on the agenda. It took him a week to find it since the directions are not very descriptive. This is a counter-service-on-paper-plates kind of place so don't expect frills but it was refreshing compared to all the chains in Boca Raton and Mizner Park.

  • Fran B.

First of all, don't expect fancy decor or atmosphere at this place. The food is good though and for about $7 you get a decent size lunch -- a meat dish + vegetable dish with basmati rice and freshly-made Naan, also a little cup of dessert (or, you can get 2 vegetables instead of 1 meat 1 veg). Food is served in paper/styrofoam plates with plastic utensils. That being said, the food is freshly prepared and taste quite authentic (more than half of the customers are usually Indians/Pakistanis).

This place is behind a CVS in a medical plaza on the south side of glades road, east of rt 95. This is a no nonsense lunch / dinner / takeout place. The food is served in styrofoam and paper plates. The food however is ususally quite good. I'm always quite drowsy after eating here.

I was pretty excited to go here because I've been wanting Indian food for a while (since I used to live in NYC and I've eating awesome Indian food up there) I was disappointed by how the Chicken Tikamasala and the Chicken Samosa tasted. The location is in a pretty dead area too. Sucks for business I suppose.

HORRIBLE! I'm usually awesome (so I've been told) with picking restaurants. This was not a chosen one... I was just starving, had gotten out of class, and took a chance with something I knew wouldn't be great. but I had NO idea it was like it was. To make matters worse ( besides the horribly boring atmosphere and bland food) I was being stared at by the staff in the back peeking through the little food window! ugh! Never go there.

    (1)
  • Olivia P.

FIVE STARS all the way! The food was absolutely the best Indian food I've had in years. The atmosphere is one star, kinda like an old take out Chinese restaurant atmosphere, but the food is really good enough to make up for it. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala. Once I tried my first bite, I seriously didn't put my fork down until I couldn't eat another bite. I even spilled some of my to go box on the floorboard of my car and was more concerned about saving the leftovers than the carpet. Lol- yes, I know I shouldn't admit this. Anyway, I would definitely suggest trying Bombay out if you have a love of Indian food. :)

  • Jo R.

One of the worst! Not ( any) number of tasty dishes on their Sunday Buffet... Only went there because I was in the area! Will never go there again... They are empty! Not many customers!

  • Asif W.

Excellent food. The minimalist layout and self-service for silverware is refreshing. It's kinda like eating high-end Indian food in a tiny hotdog joint in a strip mall. The service was great and staff were very friendly. The old school Indian music and cricket games on the TV truly gives you an authentic experience of hanging with the family. I recommend this hidden gem to anyone who isn't hung up on superficial, fancy ambience. The food is what you are there for and the good is top notch!

  • Nairy D.

Well, I had the lunch special which was chicken curry, It was more on bland side. Wish had more flavor!!! It's not a place that I would go back to eat indian food.

    (2)
  • DJ S.

Perhaps the lunch is better , but this place is certainly not for a dine-in This was my 1st time here - pretty disappointing - this is just a take out place

    (1)
  • Emily B.

Is it fancy? Absolutely not. Is it great for atmosphere? Don't count on it. But MAN, if you are in the area and need quality, filling, spicy, complex Indian food for lunch, go here. The lunch special is a great deal -- you can do two veggie entrees or one meat one veggie and it comes with rice, naan and a small dessert cup. I had the chickpeas and the peas with paneer. Both were delicious and plenty spicy -- just like you'd expect! The owner is very friendly, we chatted as the chef wrapped up my naan and I told him how a bunch of us at FAU love the food. He was kind and gracious and easy to share small talk with. They're fast too! I had a quick lunch break and got everything to go. It was ready within 5 minutes. Will happily come back again and again.

  • Randy G.

I used to be a fan of this place. As you can see I said used to be. The food was mediocre at best. The naan was crispy which defeats the purpose of being able to scoop up your sauce it mean with it. The guy behind the counter could care less that I was even there. Normally they allow you to take your food and then today. I was required to pay before I sat. down. Nothing but attitude nothing but attitude. I'm glad I threw the tray in the garbage can

A wonderful Indian restaurant hidden off Glades. Really a take out place, but they have about six tables for eat-in. The food is really very good with a wide selection of regional dishes. I love onion bhaji and while not on the menu, they always make it for me without a problem. Eating from paper plates and plastic utensils is a little disconcerting - I don't understand while these Indian take outs don't invest in a dozen simple white commercial plates and silverware. It would make the dining experience so much more. But saying that, the curries here are fabulous so bite the bullet and eat great food off paper.

Perfect for a quick lunch! We went last Friday, b/c I thought they had a buffet. While they don't actually have a buffet the food is all prepared behind the counter in cooking containers, at least if you order from their "lunch special" menu. 4 of us went form work and we all got something different, they also serve it with rice pudding for dessert and warm naan bread...which you do have to wait a couple of minutes for. You basically order, he dishes it for you right then and there, he gives you your drink, you sit down eat, and then we paid for our meal afterwards. Lunch and a can of soda was $10.50. I ordered the chicken in spinach with the curry veggies and rice...it was delicious, very tasty stuff. We all enjoyed our meals. The owner/chef is very friendly, thanked us for our business, and asked how we liked our meals. Service like that is hard to find these days!!! The restaurant is definitely on the casual side so no need to dress up, it's not a fancy place at all, but definitely clean. My co-workers actually went back today (just a mere week from their first visit) and brought others with them b/c they enjoyed it so much. The best part about this place, aside from the food, is the music. He had on Indian techno / gangsta rap. We had no idea what they were saying, but loved the sick beats! Well at least it made us laugh a lot.

As you pull up to Bombay Cafe, the parking lot is flooded by the aroma of coriander and other Indian spices. This is a favorite lunch spot for many who work in Boca Raton, as well as students and professors from FAU, since the campus is across from Bombay Cafe. In addition to getting homemade Indian food, you get a very good value, as the food is very affordable (they offer lunch specials for under $8). No need to travel to India to enjoy the delicious, exotic cuisine! This place is very casual, from the sparse decor to the styrofoam plates and the plastic, disposable silverware. The service is very attentive and friendly, and they're eager to explain the dishes and what they contain, as well as offering recommendations. Most of their dishes contain chicken, or are vegetarian, in keeping with the authenticity of Indian cuisine, meaning, no beef, as cows are sacred in India. Whenever I see a restaurant offering beef, I become skeptical and already know to expect an Americanization of Indian food. My friend ordered his chicken vindaloo favorite, while I got the korma. They use dark meat, so if you like white meat, this may pose an issue. We asked for our food to be spicy, and they obliged. My korma was creamy yet with a mild sweetness to it. Delicious! My favorite, however, was the mattar paneer, which the Sikh gentleman behind the counter recommended. I like vegetables, but not enough to convert to vegetarianism, but I was surprised about how much I liked the mattar paneer, which contained chunks of creamy cheese and a spicy and sweet sauce with peas. If all vegetarian Indian dishes are this tasty, then becoming a vegetarian should not be too difficult!

So after a bit of hiatus, came back because I am crunched on time and this place happen to be close to my appointment. Glad that I did. Although not outstanding, the quality of the food has improved and for $7.95, for a meal with dessert, it is worth trying lunch. Don't come here expecting anything fancy. This is takeout style restaurant with foam plates etc. However, if you are looking for an Indian food fix, it is worth a shot. Recommend the Naan, which was really tasty. However, not a big fan of the mango lassi...a bit too sweet for my taste.

    (3)
  • Peter Q.

I give it 4 stars for the combination of good food at reasonable prices. Had dinner here. Minimalist decor and self service too but I prefer that. I will certainly return for $7.95 M to F lunch specials. Not an expert in Indian food but sure looked and smelled like a genuine Indian restaurant. Cooks were Indian and so was the music.

Indian food is among my favorites, however this place is highly disappointing. I came here with my friend for lunch, the chicken tikka masala tasted great however you can tell the meat is low grade. A few hours after eating here, I felt sick to my stomach. The dishes are expensive and you dont get much for what you pay. The inside of the place is disgusting. Most tables were covered in debris and left over food particles. I give this place 1 star. Overpriced, low quality food, and an upset stomach.

    (1)
  • Roberto B.

This place blows. Lowest quality Indian food is served for lunch. The flavor of everything I had was way off the mark, Even something as basic as chickpea curry (chole) was a disaster. Wait on line in a stark room, make some basic choices from the limited menu, then take your paper plate and eat in a crowded environment. Not a nice experience, but the incredibly limited choice of Indian fare in Boca/Delray merits this dive one extra star.

This place is like five minutes from my apartment, so I had to at least check it out after accidentally stumbling upon it trying to figure out how on earth to get out of the CVS parking lot. It looks more like a takeout place--a few small tables for the grab-a-bite lunch crowd, fluorescent lights, no decor to speak of. Indian food is my favorite, and I was craving it fiercely when I came here. The food was eh. I mean, it wasn't terrible, but it didn't have that certain something I'm looking for in Indian food. They didn't ask for what level of spiciness I wanted (the "default" was decently spicy, but I'd have preferred it a little hotter--I've been ramping up my spice tolerance lately). The mutter (peas) were on the hard/dry side, like maybe they'd been freezer-burned. The naan was good; it was maybe a little too crisp in places, but some people are into that sort of thing. The meal satisfied the craving, but I don't think I'd go back. It's definitely my least favorite of the three Indian places I've tried since moving to the area six months ago. It was priced about the same as Khana Kh'zana, but the food was not as good. (It is much closer, though.)

    (2)
  • Asian G.

Food is OK...owners are rude and arrogant...not a fan ! Certain things are overly priced ....be careful when you place a pick up order. Ask for prices..

  • Kishma C.

This place will always be one of my favorites. The paneer makhani is delicious. The naan is always fresh. They have daily lunch specials but I never really like the lunch specials.

  • Remy L.

I stopped there recently for group lunch after reading a few reviews on Yelp. We ordered a mix of chicken, lamb cooked with curry, tandoori or tikka masala. Everybody was mostly happy with their food. It tasted fresh and was well prepared. We enjoyed sharing the plates and it was a great experience. Now, I've read some harsh reviews about it. Remember it's cheap! "You pay for what you get". To me, for $10 or less per person, it is a great deal. A wide selection of meals, including vegetarians. Now, if the chef could stop yelling in Indian in his cellphone while we eat, that would be great...

  • Mikki N.

Maybe I came at a bad time but the food was horrible. Very bland and very little flavor. I also found the portion size was way overpriced.

Not being very experienced with Indian food the wife and I decided to give this place a try out. The good: The food was very flavorful, each bite presenting its spice level in different ways. Chicken and lamb were both cooked perfectly and the staff were very pleasant and forthcoming on suggesting things to try out. In short; food wise this is a good place to try out The bad: I've lived in Boca nearly 25 years now and I didn't know the plaza Bombay Cafe is located in existed until I found it with GPS! Its extraordinary hard to find and the good news there is since no one can find it, parking is a breeze! The other bad is Bombay Cafe really serves as a takeaway location. Yes there are tables. No, they really aren't for eating there!

    (3)
  • David C.

This is the best Indian food in Boca... by far. It's not much to look at and the location stinks, but the food is great! The chicken tikka masala is wonderful and the lamb vindaloo is the best I've had. Great place to pick up food to go or have a very casual dine-in on one of their very few tables.

    (5)
  • Angel R.

Better options in the frozen food section of Publix. My take out was wrapped in aluminum foil, and the over-priced seafood soup was watery and bland. My whole order was bland! Stay away... Zero stars...

    (1)
  • Alicia C.

fantastic food!!! good portions, good prices. $8 for lunch special. includes either 1 vegetarian curry + 1 meat curry, or 2 vegetarian curries. plus rice, fresh naan, and a small dessert. i got the chicken tikka masala and a spinach & potato curry, and the dessert was a type of tapioca with spices in it (kind of like cinnamon). (additional info...just went back today. looks like the lunch menu changes daily :) love the variety!) everything was fresh and delicious. a lot of people were taking to go orders, and there were a few people dining there also. there is a seated area you can eat at, but it's not extravagant or anything like a normal sit down restaurant. small but clean and well kept. i saw signs for delivery as well but i'm not sure how that works cuz it looks like the service goes through an external website. definitely will come back!!!! oh and for those who can't find the place...if you're going east on glades, make a right into the medical plaza right after the chevron station. it is in the back of the medical plaza. not difficult to find, but you may be thrown off by the medical plaza in the front of it.

  • Eva C.

Definitely recommended for authentic, cheap indian food. This is more of a takeout place. Portions are medium size, like all indian food. Bread is fresh, all dishes I've tried have incredible flavor. Little hole in the wall joint which is highly recommended!

  • Rachel M.

Ate here for the first time this week and it was alright... I don't have much experience with Indian food but I've heard such great things, I wanted to try it... They offer a $6.99 lunch special which is one vegetarian dish and one non-vegetarian dish with rice, naan and dessert. The lunch menu changes daily I think... The eggplant was pretty good. Wasn't too crazy about the chicken in curry sauce. Didn't like the dessert. Naan was okay. Would like to try some other places than update my review.

  • Jade C.

I love this little place. My roomie took me there within a week of moving to Boca. I was raised in England where our fast food is "Indian Takeaway" and honestly this is the closest thing I've found since I left home! Wow, $6.99 lunch special for such a big meal and desert you just can't go wrong. Ok I know some reviews have pointed out that it is not the greatest decor or "sit-in" environment and yes styrofoam and plastic tablewear is hardly fine dining but seriously that is the way Indian take-out is around the world - and honestly, its not like a McDonald Big Mac meal won't put you back about 7 bucks and its not served on fine china either, so I poo-poo those comments. The food was so tasty, I love the variety - warning it gets super busy at lunch so be prepared to be in a line, nevertheless it is worth the wait, your tummy will thank you.

Did I just eat food? I don't know the last time I left a place wishing I had just skipped the meal instead. I love Indian food, but am by no means am I snobby about it. I'll eat at Naan N' Curry in NorCal and India Sweets and Spices in LA which I've been told is like the McDonalds of Indian food, and I know it's not great but I still like it. I say this to express that I didn't walk into this place with very high standards and I still couldn't have been more let down. The rice was undercooked and dry, the chai was watery, the curries were palatable but more hot spicy than flavorful spicy. We ordered samosas but I'm not sure that was we received counts. I was going to say that this is the worst Indian food I've ever eaten, but I think it was the worst food I've ever eaten. Plus the service is terrible and everything is overpriced. Also, if you are going to try it know that everything is served in or on styrofoam and there are only plastic utensils- which I would forgive if the food was ...like food, but after paying $35 for a small gross dinner for two, the plastic fork feels a little bit like adding insult to injury.

  • Kaeko B.

First of all, this is a takeout restaurant with a few cheap tables and chairs - not a first date kind of place. I only order the same stuff every time, so I can't speak about the other dishes, but we really like what we always order. The chicken tikka marsala and shrimp curry are both very flavorful and delicious. We also get the bindhi marsala, which is okra fried with onions, a little tomatoes and spices. We've tried some kind of mixed veg curry before, but the veg in there was mixed frozen vegetables, so I really didn't like the texture. This is a good place for me to call in and place an order on my way home. I do think this place is a little overpriced for take out though. We always spend a little over $40 for 2. Plenty of sauce but not enough chicken or shrimp, but the flavor is great!

Today I forgot my wallet at home and had no idea that I did until I stepped into the Bombay Cafe. The gentleman was so nice as to let me pay next time and give me my lunch without charge. I would have gone hungry if it wasn't for his generosity. The Bombay Cafe is not only delicious, but their staff are saints. Check this place out if you are ever in the area! Thank you and namaste.

I like the Chana Masala here and the lunch deals especially. High quality, great price.

  • H P.

Hole in the wall!!! No proper tables/chairs. No silverware or plates. Just paper and plastic ware. Food was not good quality and not priced fairly. Surprising to see awards on the wall. Folks in Boca likely don't know what to expect from an award winning Indian restaurant which makes it easy for these non-professionals to setup shop and lower the standards for Indian cuisine.

I am quiet disappointed at the Indian food options in Boca. Considering the fact that we have Indian food at least once a day at our home, coming across sub-standard food place such as the Bombay Cafe in Boca is a cause of worry. Yes, I am not a fan of Punjab either. More on that when I review Punjab. First of, I'd like to say that the Bombay Cafe in Fort Fauderdale, which is a gem of a restaurant and has amazing food, is unfortunately owned by the same person but have different chefs. When I met the owner, I suggested that he have a look at the staff, food, and location (in that order) in Boca. To which he said "I'm trying". The location of this place is weird. Sometimes, even GPS systems are confused. This place (I refuse to call it a restaurant as its more of a Take-Away place- upon mentioning the word Take-Away, the guy at the counter was seriously offended) has only few tables so If you are planning on eating there, be prepared to wait for a table indefinitely since the staff does not bother about getting you a table. Their actions highly indicate that you take the food and be on your way. This means you save on tip. They have low priced lunch options for both vegetarian and non-veg items too. They give you the option to choose your entrees and the naan fresh. It also includes a dessert. On both occasions, I have been there, the chicken was under cooked. The curry tasted like it had past its best by date a week back and they were adding spices to it daily for re-use. The naan was the best part. Unfortunately, in Indian homes the breads such as naan, roti, etc are not had by themselves. The Pakora Kadhi was not even worth a second spoon. The pakoras or fritters were rock hard and the KAdhi was more oil than any other thing. Now my note on the Staff. The guy at the counter is rude, aggressive, unhelpful, and lacks basic customer service knowledge. When I asked for a menu so that I could take it to my table, select what I wanted, and then order, he said "Its on the wall, why do you want to waste paper". To which I suggested that he should stop printing menu on paper. It obviously din't go down to well with him. He turned red while another guy from behind the counter handed me a paper menu. The most unpleasant dining experience! I wow not to go back there again - unless they sell a sure shot tonic that cures common cold.

Food was good, was extremely hungry. Think it would make a great lunch stop, but was here a few minutes before closing. Ordered the paneer burji and Gobi aloo with 2 garlic naans and 2 Aloo paratha. It was served piping hot.

We just had lunch today. The flavor, taste and quality has gone down and lunch special price has gone up. Chicken korma was not tasting like korma if you know what i mean. Rice was hard and naan bread was hard. And on top of that, me and my friend had hiccups all day after eating. If this continues people will stop eating here

  • Sarah T.

This place is delicious, but it doesn't look like anything from the outside. The dining area is sparse, but the food is very tasty. The best deal is the lunch special, $7 or $8 for an awesome amount of food. At dinnertime the prices can almost double, so I only come here for lunch :-)

  • Thomas B.

Very basic inside, friendly staff. The menu is comprehensive. I called ahead and asked if they had a buffet, they said yes, I got there, no buffet. I went at lunch time, got the $7.95 special. Chicken Tikka Masala was kind of watery but had a good taste, I wish it was creamier. I had a veggie Korm (Navratta?) which was also a little watery but also had a good taste. I prefer Bombay Cafe in Wilton Manors.

The food here is very very good! It's easy to find indian food in most towns, but it's hard to find good indian food. I had the Samsoas which were exactly like I like em, the tamarind chutney was sweet and yummy. The Chicken Makhani was KILLER! The sauce was tomatoey and creamy, so so good. Chicken was the right texture, thanks god. He also told me the secret ingredient, ground up cashews and a little sugar. It was sweet and strong just like I LOVE It. Gulab Juman desert was a little mushy and way too hot(temperature) This is not a fancy place, it's more like a cafeteria, counter service. You eat off disposable plates and use plastic forks. You serve yourself water from a jug on the counter. I would eat here again cause the dishes were so yummy! It's also impossible to find. It's behind the hospital, the map yelp shows is totally wrong. From 95, turn on Glades Head east towards the beach, go past the big shopping center on the right and not that much further you will see 13th street, take a right on that road and the next right into the complex, then it's on your right.

We ordered naan and couple of chicken specialties for lunch. The naans were delicious. The gravies tasted good for both of them, but the chicken pieces tasted horrible. I guess the chicken is old and it spoiled the whole food. Though it is very close to the place I live, I am not going there again.

Here's how to find this place. Directly across from FAU there's a combination office complex/shopping center which contains Booksmart and CVS. All the way in the back is the Bombay Cafe. Don't go there for atmosphere, ambiance, or decor because it has none of the above. But I'm giving it 3.5 to 4 stars for the delicious food and the $6.95 lunch special. In truth the meat dish (chicken or lamb) could have had just a little more meat, but they give you lots of naan bread, rice, and vegetables, which is probably the way people eat in Asia anyway. Didn't like the dessert. Should have asked for one more chunk of meat and forget the dessert! So if you happen to have a craving for Indian food, Bombay Cafe might be just the thing.
